Cons

We do not own it and pay $20-50 per day to live in it. Do not get any capital gain after paying to refurbish the apartment.

Location, convenient for shopping, access to Auckland city centre and nearby suburbs Three bedrooms Comfortable apartment Staff No repairs or maintenance to do Repairs and maintenance receive prompt attention Gym Pleasant staff.

Cons

Having read the screeds of conditions before moving in to the village. I now have concerns that when I vacate the unit, there is no incentive for Selwyn to refurbish it. Consequently any prevarication will involve my estate continue to pay. If Selwyn had new units on sale at the same time there sales priority is likely to be on selling new units while continuing to take the fee for the unit I will have vacated. This will diminish the value of my estate.

Huge additional building planned with no consideration of extending facilities that are already stretched to the limit eg parking,restaurant

Fixed fee for life, company, security, café, keep fit facilities, location, onsite library, white ware included, no maintenance costs, good atmosphere and staff pleasant.

Cons

Fees continue longer than necessary when vacated, uncertainty of care home availability onsite if needed, monocultural compared to life on a street, some other residents selfish (take away newspaper from communal area!) and some residents cannot sort rubbish from recycling.

I support the RVRANZ’s moves to review the RV Act 2003 and 2008 Code of Practice but this does not mean I am dissatisfied with Selwyn Foundation’s operation or management
