There are a few committees here one for residents, one for family and friends and another one. I also hear on the radio these adverts saying about how Eden Principles and patient centric care was paramount. I question this - I see plants and animals but Happy residents I see that on photos at special events but in every day n oh t so much at EK. In the lounge or in the kitchen - not much chatter or laughte

I placed feedback in regards a different issue. In 2020 there was a very unprofessional interaction between Administrators care person. So much so that I made a verbal request that [edit] was not to have anything to do with mums care and [edit] advised two things that (a) [edit] would give a written apology- which never happened and secondly in August 2020 [edit] was involved in Mums Careplan? This is something people should consider when choosing a home for a loved one.

It didn't seem like visitors were that welcome. It should be more of a homely feel environment and encouraging family to be involved in the loved one's care. Right from the start it seemed even though we had our POA (Sister) give us permission to view documentation and obviously day to day care it was a big hassle to view. I provided more feedback on google review and that gives a clearer idea of how I felt our mum and us as a family were treated.

The management on Occassion have been confrontational. During lockdown 2021 once allowed in to visit it was noticed that a item our mother had requested a wooden and unique dining room chair had been stolen a incident form was completed Dec 19 and it has not been closed very poor communication we also had a sensor mat removed. It’s extremely frustrating as we were not allowed to visit, This unique chair has been in our family over 50yrs 4 lots of generations and EK seem disinterested.

There needs to be better documentation of any changes in patients day and moving room around is certainly one of them as is removing a sensor safety mat.

Hiding all the negatives and making thud place look great

Its not great! My brother had MND and was allowed to walk up the road in the rain where he ended up with pneumonia and when he requested a Dr they told him to wait until Monday. He ended up calling an ambulance. He died a month later due to complications with MND and pneumonia. My mother has been allowed to venture out by herself, she has mobility issues and dementia. EK refuse to take responsibility and even blamed mum. Its a terrible place.

short-staffed, attitudes, care, Elizabeth Knox Home ticks all the boxes for a complete revamp of management owners and/or trustees.

If you are after making money go buy a few properties (you must have plenty of money by now) From what I have seen and heard the bobby calves get better treatment

Why we have Rest Home Audits

All rest homes and aged residential care facilities are certified and audited to ensure they:

provide safe, appropriate care for their residents
meet the standards set out in the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001.

Types of audit and when they happen

Certification / Surveillance Audits
Certification audits happen every 1–4 years. After the audit, rest homes are certified for a set period of time (the exact length depends on how well the rest home performed at the certification audit). Once this time is up, the rest home must be re-audited and its certification renewed.
An unannounced spot audit (also called a surveillance audit) happens around the middle of a rest home’s certification period. The spot audit ensures progress has been made on outstanding areas identified in the earlier certification audit and that standards haven’t slipped.
In addition to audits, rest homes have to report to their DHB on how they are addressing issues found at audit. These improvements are then verified at the next audit event.
Other types of audit
Provisional audits happen when a provider purchases a certified rest home from another provider.
Partial provisional audits happen when a provider wants to add services to their certificate (eg, a rest home adding hospital-level care), when a new rest home is built, or when a provider adds capacity or reconfigures their services (eg, builds a new wing, upgrades rooms). Before 2014, audits for adding capacity or reconfiguring services were referred to as verification audits.
Ministry inspections
Rest homes may have unannounced inspections by the Ministry under the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001 in the event of a serious complaint.
DHB issues-based audits
DHBs can conduct issues-based audits under the Aged Related Residential Care Contract. For information on these audits please contact the relevant DHB.
