Very few during the Covid-19 lock-down.

Cons

Treated as if leppers, outcasts from society. Locked in and locked out! Gates closed. Guards on main gate. All activities ceased. Community Centre closed. Isolated in our bubbles of one! Very difficult for elderly to have no visits from family. No incentives or offers to encourage connection to others.

We appreciate the Covid-19 lockdown has been a challenge for all New Zealanders particularly those over 70 who, at the recommendation from the government, have had to stay within their homes. Oceania has complied with measures set by the government and Retirement Village Association which has included limiting movement in and out of the village and closing communal facilities. This being said, to ensure residents felt supported, we implemented a calling programme contacting residents each day to check on their welfare, we had shopping support, residents had the option to have a 'bubble buddy' within the village to socialise with, and we also provided weekly activity packs for residents. At level three, residents had more freedom to extend their bubbles as per the Government's guidelines, and for those not wanting to extend their bubbles, we have offered activities such as exercise classes etc. in small groups with physical distancing. We are sorry to hear your experience during lockdown has been difficult, but hope you can appreciate that any restrictions put in place were under the advisement of governing bodies, and were in the interest of keeping all of our residents safe.

My husband and I moved here in 2011, wanting a Villa and liking the appearance of everything. My husband passed away in 2018. He was in hospital here for a few months before he died and was very well cared for. The staff were wonderful.

Unfortunately this Village was built on a hill, which as we are getting older (and not driving) becomes a bit of a problem.
