Charles Upham Retirement Village in Rangiora, Canterbury is a new facility still under construction. Town House and Apartment living is already open with more being built. This Ryman village in Rangiora is stated as "providing a lifestyle option to suit everyone. Including independent townhouse and apartment living, assisted living in serviced apartments, and the very best of resthome, hospital and dementia care".

The facilities planned for Charles Upham Retirement Village will include "an all weather bowling green, heated indoor swimming pool and spa, gym, beauty and hairdressing salon, cafe, library, and even a movie theatre! There is so much for residents to enjoy, including village events and outings".

As of July 2016 the care faciities are still under construction at this Ryman retirement village - which, as said, will include rest home, hospital and dementia level care. In their first newsletter it mentions that the Charles Upham Village has just released their one-bedroom serviced apartments. "If you would like a little extra assistance, then housework is taken care of, fresh towels are delivered to you daily, and there's a kitchenette where you can prepare light meals in addition to enjoying a two-course midday meal in the village dining room."

Rymans choice of names for this new village recognises Charles Hazlett Upham, born 1908, in Christchurch - who became an international hero after winning the Commonwealth's highest honour for bravery - the Victoria Cross - twice, and he is the only combat soldier ever to win two of these awards. Charles Upham was 86 when he passed away in 1994.
