Strathallan Retirement Village in Timaru offers retirement "villas and serviced apartments which are built to a very high standard", and are set within a wonderfully presented and accessible village. Residents have the freedom to come and go as they please as well as knowing that they are part of a friendly community.

Situated in Timaru, Strathallan Village & Lifecare is conveniently located near supermarkets, local shops, cafes and the wider community.

The retirement village offers 'Peace of Mind', with a registered nurse on-site, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are Nurse Call buttons in the retirement villas and apartments to ensure there is help whenever needed. Fire Protection systems are also in place throughout the Village.

Each villa offers spacious living with access to gardens and is designed with quality fittings and furnishings. Living at Strathallan retirement village offers a sense of community, with neighbours for company and support.

Pros

1) Good social atmosphere. 2) Nicely presented. 3) Good location. 4) Comfortable 5) Well maintained and ordered.

Cons

1) The process when exiting Strathallan after 5 years was disappointing (cold) and the costs excessive, some of which were petty. 2) At exit, occupants are subject to waiting for a sale, at market rate, which they do not profit from. Can be a catch if having to shift from the village for any reason and purchase elsewhere. 3) Management seems to be a bit abrupt.

Although I'm aware that management aren't going to be able to please all residents, there did seem to be occasions where there was a resistance to respond to some simple requests for improvements that are common sense and would benefit all residents.

We looked at a number of villages - and because we needed wider doorways for an electric wheelchair this was the only one we found with good access and flat floor shower.

Cons

Limited/No gardening, dietary (Coelic condition)needs not met, apparent lack of oversight of hired contractors.
